How to sign documents with an ID card (eID) in Slovakia
This guide explains how to sign documents with an electronic signature using a Slovak ID card with a chip (eID). To sign, you need to have the required applications properly installed and the electronic signature activated on your ID card.
1. Installing the required applications
First, you need to install two applications:
eID Klient – an application for working with your ID card
Download: https://www.slovensko.sk/sk/na-stiahnutieSIGNI – an application for signing documents
Download: https://signiapp.blob.core.windows.net/app/SigniSetup.msi
Once downloaded, install both applications on your computer.
2. Setting up the application and connecting it to your ID card
After installation, launch the eID Klient application and make sure it is correctly set up to work with your ID card.
You will need:
an ID card with an activated electronic signature
an ID card reader connected to your computer
the security codes you received when your eID was issued or activated
Once set up correctly, the eID Klient application will be ready to use for signing documents.
3. Creating a document to sign in SIGNI
After setting up the eID Klient application, proceed as follows:
Open the SIGNI application.
Upload or create the document you want to sign.
Select the sign with certificate option.
Continue to the signing process.
4. Selecting a certificate
Connect the ID card reader to your computer.
Insert your ID card into it.
The SIGNI application will prompt you to select a certificate.
Select the certificate that contains:
your name
the SVK designation
This certificate is used for the electronic signature.
5. Entering the authorization code
After selecting the certificate, you will be prompted to enter the authorization code (BOK / signing PIN).
You received this code when:
your ID card was issued, or
the electronic signature was activated.
After entering the code, the signature will be authorized.
6. Signing the document
After you successfully enter the authorization code, the application will complete the signing process and the document will be electronically signed.
A document signed in this way can be securely shared or sent to other parties.
