Electronic certificates are one of the technological options for electronic signing. Signatures with them are also sometimes called digital signatures. One of the types of signatures they allow is called a qualified signature. This is required, for example, in public administration negotiations, when signing contracts of greater importance, etc.
The advantage of qualified signatures is the high level of security or certainty that the person signing was indeed the person in question. The disadvantage is that the technical and organisational aspects of their acquisition and subsequent management are not entirely straightforward, as are the additional financial costs. This is related to the low prevalence of the possibility of qualified signatures among ordinary people compared to, for example, biometric signatures on a touchscreen device.
